A minute’s silence is observed to honor the NBA champion Kobe Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash in California. Moments after the news of his death was reported, players about to take the court for the Denver Nuggets v Houston Rockets game bow their heads. Eight other people were killed in the crash in a remote field north-west of central Los Angeles. There were no survivors
